Tonnta is a three-piece indie-folk band from Cork, Ireland, featuring Colum Sheehan, Julie Harrington, and Seán Ó Faoláin.
Friends since their school days, they started making music together as teenagers, drawing inspiration from the landscapes of West Cork and the sense of both escape and belonging it evokes.
Their name, tonnta - the Irish word for “waves” reflects the movement in their music, oscillating between quiet, stripped-back moments and fuller, layered sounds. Blending guitars, bass, drums, and banjo with both male and female vocals, their sound is rooted in folk with an indie sensibility.
A key part of their identity is their collaborative approach. Each member writes and sings, much like an Irish sing-song where every voice brings a new perspective.
Tonnta's first EP, Against the Tides, includes tracks such as Rabbit Hole, Beach House, Dreaming and the title track Against the Tides exploring themes of nature and escapism, through soulfully introspective lyrics and atmospheric folk-rock melodies.
